After fighting what seemed to be a losing battle, Hengistbury Head looked set to close its doors in August 2009, as Bournemouth Borough Council made their difficult decision to cease opening the Centre. Costs had become increasingly high, without the centre making enough money in return. Despite being made available for public tender; numerous petitions and campaigns on social networks such Facebook and Twitter; the outcome for the watersport and land activity centre looked bleak.
Having taken on such a huge project Brockenhurst College will not be alone with their venture. Liquid Logistics Canoeing & Kayaking have offered their support and will be working closely with Brockenhurst to offer high quality courses to both students and the public.
Liquid Logistics Canoeing & Kayaking are based in the New Forest, offering many activities including Sea Kayaking and BCU Courses. The majority of their activities take place on the Beaulieu River, but trips are often taken to Dorset for Sea Kayaking days along the coastline. With their highly experienced staff Liquid Logistics have joined with Brockenhurst College to initially start running their BCU Courses from Hengistbury Head. They hope that by doing so, Liquid Logistics are both offering their support to the project, and offering their customers even better facilities for their courses.
Sam Sutton, Liquid Logistics Director has said:
“We are really looking forward to supporting Brockenhurst College, to provide first class paddle sport activities at Hengistbury Head this coming year.”
With such strong support behind it, it is hopeful that Hengistbury Head will reach its full potential, and will be enjoyed by students and the public for many years to come.
